Arnhem Extends its Trolleygrid to Intercity Transport by Trolley2.0 Buses

Location:

Date of publication:

Focus Areas:

Trolleybus line 352 is an express In Motion Charged (IMC) trolleybus service that runs between the Dutch cities of Arnhem and Wageningen. Arnhem has introduced the new IMC t-buses that can use the existing trolleygrid catenary to charge the t-bus batteries. This means that these state-of-the-art vehicles can be disconnected from the grid in Oosterbeek, at the end of the overhead line network, and continue to Wageningen on a battery-mode.

The charging corridor Arnhem Centraal-Oosterbeek is almost 7 km long, while the route Oosterbeek-Wageningen is impressive 17 km long.

This charging in-motion of the trolleybuses helps to avoid the costly construction of a dedicated charging infrastructure. Additionally, the solution extends the usable range of the existing trolleygrid infrastructure well beyond the physical footprint of its overhead cables
